National Team Trials are always a great opportunity to get coaches together in an open forum, and to bring in others in the online environment. Thursday June 18th will feature the 6th annual National Coaches Forum. As always, lunch will be provided, an open forum will be held to learn about current updates in sprint canoekayak. This year’s forum will feature a presentation from a gymnastics coach on Technical and Strength Development in Pre-Pubertal, and early train to train athletes.

Date:                     Thursday June 18th, 2015

Time:                    11:30 – 13:30

Location:            Aquatic Complex, Parc Jean Drapeau

Free Lunch Will be PROVIDED!

Presentation:   Skill and Strength Development in Pre-Pubertal Athletes.

The workshop will focus on strategies to develop skill and technique with younger athletes, while also developing strength and power. The presenter will bring her experience, knowledge and training concepts from the highly technical and powerful sport of gymnastics to canoekayak coaches.  This will be a great opportunity for canoekayak coaches to gain insight on skill development in young athletes, while still providing a fun environment, and keeping athletes motivated.

Presenter:          Melanie Wallwork, Head Coach, Alta Gymnastics Club

Melanie is an NCCP Level IV Candidate gymnastics coach, and is currently coaching at Alta gymnastics club in Halifax, NS. She has been coaching competitive gymnastics at the developmental and high performance level for over 15 years, and currently specializes in coaching pre-pubertal athletes in gymnastics.
