Attention All Parents!

Are your children paddling, but do you find the rules of sprint kayak racing a bit of a mystery? Then come out and learn more!

Did you know that running a regatta weekend takes about 100 volunteers? And that all parents started out not knowing the rules? Parents need to be involved to help ensure that regattas are run safely and fairly for all athletes. Volunteers are needed to officiate, both on and off the water, and to do other roles such as driving boats, acting as safety spotters and handing out medals. Come and get involved so you and your children will get more out of regatta days. Your help will be appreciated by everyone!

Upcoming training schedule:

  • Level I – June 19 at Rideau Canoe Club
  • Level II  June 19 at Rideau Canoe Club, with a second day to be completed at an upcoming regatta
  • Level III (provincials) – May 14-15 at Boys and Girls Club (next to Rideau Canoe Club)
Instructors are Bevin Schmidt, EOD Flag; Charles Slade, CKC Sprint Racing Executive Committee; Sherry Goodyear-Stein, Divisional Officials Coordinator; and LA Schmidt, Commodore of ORCC and Vice Chair of Domestic Development, Sprint Racing Executive Committee.
