Canoe Kayak Ontario (CKO) Sprint hosted it's second of two 2018-2019 Winter OCup Series events this past Sunday, February 3rd, 2019 in Gatineau, QC.

Over 60 athletes, alumni, volunteers and parents from 8 Ontario clubs participated in the Winter OCup Ski Loppet.  Congratulations to Carleton Place Canoe Club for their first place finish with 97 points.  Rideau was 2nd with 83 points, Balmy Beach 3rd with 41 points.

Carleton Place's performances at the Ski Loppet moved them from a 5th place ranking after the Winter OCup Swim Meet to the overall 2018-2019 Winter OCup Series Grand Champion!  Rideau finished 2nd overall, Balmy Beach 3rd overall.  The Winter OCup Series combines a clubs total points from both the Swim Meet and Ski Loppet.

A HUGE thanks to our event sponsor Kunstadt Sports in Kanata and Ottawa and Steve Tuttle for providing the great prizes and racing pinnies.  Event results can be found here

The Winter OCup Ski Loppet was part of our final 2018-2019 Ontario Team NextGen training camp before the athletes head off to on-water training in Florida.  Ontario Team athletes arrived in Gatineau, QC on Thursday and completed multiple ski sessions before the big race on Sunday.  As always, we couldn't run these events without the great coaching staff and volunteers, including:  CPCC's Pat Lester, RCC's Andres Carranco, ORCC's Joel Hazzan, MCC's Angus Mortimer, SNCC's KC Fraser, RCC's Cheyanne Farquharson, Gabriel Beauchesne-Sevigny, Klara Maria Andersson, Troy Crown, Jessica Murphy-Burke and Paul Pageau.
